Birthday 2025

Good Morning Friend,

If you are reading this on Tuesday, April 15th, you are reading this on my birthday. Yay! I am an unapologetic lover of birthdays, including my own. If you ask me my favorite holiday, I will probably say my birthday. I love holidays that emphasize the passing of time and prompt reflection. And what is better for that than a birthday?

In observance of April 15th, my birthday (not tax day), if it is a weekday, I take the day off from work. I have failed to do this a couple of times in my adult life and it has always been a huge mistake. The things people are doing today to cover for me! It is almost obscene to ask people to take care of the things that had to happen today, but I did and they agreed. And I am filled with gratitude.

The day must be free. I will wake up when I want and I will get out of bed when I want. I will spend time alone reflecting on my life, the past year, and going forward. Most times, with a really good special coffee drink from the outside world. I wonder just how much coffee I will drink today...

If you think I will not do scratch tickets you are out of your mind. I will scratch several (okay, maybe 2 or 3) and it will be with my special metal guitar pick that I use to scratch scratch tickets. So, I better locate it today because if I don’t have that wouldn’t be worth it. Will I win? Probably not. I generally don’t. Winning is not the point. That sweet, satisfying scratching is the point.

To prep, I will also make a gluten free cherry pie. In the pre-GF days, it used to be chocolate cake with chocolate frosting but we evolve. I think everyone gets a homemade baked treat on their birthday. But I also believe that the birthday person gets whatever they want on their birthday so if they want something from a bakery that is fine. If they want to skip it that is fine, too, but I cannot understand it. And if you need a homemade birthday treat and no one else wants to help you out with that, you let me know and we will get it sorted.

One more thing, it snowed last week and I heard some people crabbing about the snow. Way more often than not, it snows on my birthday. And that is a gift for me. And for the flowers. If you have been annoyed by mid-April snow in the past, I am hoping that now that you realize this is normal and it is actually one of my greatest birthday pleasures, you will be a little less annoyed.

I hope you have a really good day. I hope you are having a really good life. I hope this coming year is positively bitchin’.

Love,

Renée
