val spilled the beans

Good Morning Friend,

You know I don’t like to talk about an idea until it is really, really, real. I protect my ideas and keep them close. They don’t need to get knocked around by the world before they are ready. Really, I don’t need to get knocked around until I am ready.

Someone let it slip to our pal Val that we have been planning to build a farmstand here at the farm. And I get it, Dave and Val were traveling together on a mini-tour and some people run out of things to talk about. That is not a problem I have but I have heard that some do run out of things to say.

Plus, Dave is excited about a farmstand and isn’t afflicted with idea protection in the same way that I am.

Then Val let it slip. On stage. In Brownsville. She told the whole audience that we are building a farmstand. I could have barfed. My special secret idea was out there! Before I was ready!

Don’t blame Val. No one told her it wasn’t ready for the world. And her nudge may not have been the worst thing. If it were up to me the farmstand would probably be open for months (maybe years) before I ever told you about it. You probably think I am kidding. Hardly.

Anyways, the beans have been spilled so here are the preliminary details:

  • It is SUPER important to us that our flowers are bonkers fresh and happy and selling them here on the farm is the very best way to make that happen.

  • We want people to have some choices when they are coming to get flowers, and having a structure to protect the flowers will allow us to set out some options.

  • The flower season doesn’t perfectly align with farmer’s market season and we need a place to peddle our wares in the spring and fall when some of our very best flowers are growing.

Planning has been fun and we have zeroed in on exactly what we need. Shady protected spot, airflow, parking. Preliminary ideas to create some magical space abutting the honestly sometimes truly disgusting reality of a flower farm.

We are aiming for early summer. Timeline isn’t exact. We are among the least handy people in the world so we will be coordinating with some others to make this happen. Site prep, structure, zoning, neighbors. And mud season is long and makes stuff like this hard.

Let us know what you want to know. I hate throwing my ideas out but I do love chatting and answering questions so really do let us know if there is something you want to know.

Take care,

Renée
